Teacher Job Description
Grace Cottage School is a 3k-12 cottage school in Oxford, MS. GCS offers our homeschool community support with a liberal arts education founded on the philosophies and methods of Charlotte Mason and Classical Education. These philosophies help foster the development of the whole child by teaching to varying interests and supporting his or her relationship with the Creator and His creation. Our vision is for GCS to be a place where children grow in their love for God, each other, their community, and life-long learning.
Teacher Responsibilities
- Teaching core academic and liberal arts classes including reading, writing, literature, math, science, history, art, music, and Bible
- Following pre-written lesson plans
- Sending regular classroom updates and assignments to parents
- Developing supply lists and preparing in advance for activities
- Monitoring students during lunch and recess
- Attending staff and professional development meetings
- Maintaining regular contact with parents
- Meeting regularly with the Cottage School Director to review methods, curriculum, management, and discipline issues or student concerns
- Studying the Charlotte Mason and/or Classical educational philosophies and familiarizing themselves with the curriculum prior to the beginning of the school year
Qualifications
GCS seeks teachers who are professing Christians and active in their faith. Applicants must have a heart for service and a desire to learn and implement the methods of Charlotte Mason in the elementary years and Classical Education in the middle and high school years. Teachers should have experience educating in either a classroom or homeschool environment. A college degree is preferred but not required. Teachers should be able to manage a classroom of up to twelve students. They should also be willing and able to follow curriculum lesson plans and engage students in productive lessons.
